Grampians

Northern Grampians:

An area of sprawling wineries, bushwalking, and majestic views, the Northern Grampians embody the soul of Western Victoria. This region’s natural beauty is complemented by a time-honored tradition of storytelling, with significant ties to Aboriginal heritage sites. A rich history and plentiful natural resources link the Northern Grampians community together, allowing visitors a collaborative feeling from the moment they step foot into the region.

Culinary history further ties in, with some of the oldest vines in Australia making up the Grampians Wine Region. Originally settled in the 1840s, the Northern Grampians has been home to plentiful and potent wines for nearly two centuries, with family farms and larger-scale commercial vineyards producing wines for the public to take in. The Northern Grampians boasts opportunities to connect with a community of winemakers and vignerons that have been committed to creating rich, fragrant wines.

Vibrant history and winemaking traditions make the Northern Grampians a perfect setting for educational exchange between producers and consumers. Learning more about sustainably grown, responsibly cultivated, and lovingly stewarded vines is a desire that many foodies from across the world have. The Northern Grampians may very well be their classroom.

Southern Grampians:

The Southern Grampians are the heart of a thriving farming community throughout Western Victoria. Some of the earliest pastoral settlements in Victoria, towns like Dunkeld and Hamilton bring diners into a grand and storied culinary tradition. A community of farmers, artists, small business owners, and families, the Southern Grampians balance modern taste with old-world sensibility, resulting in delectable dishes from local eateries.

Acclaimed pastries, loaves of bread, and grains are a noteworthy aspect of Southern Grampian culinary culture, with award-winning sourdough and baked goods based out of Dunkeld. Boasting a wood fire scotch oven, unique baked goods that pack a punch of flavor are one of the most memorable culinary experiences to take in within the Southern Grampians.

Award-winning pastries complement passionate chocolatiers, using local ingredients to make comforting sweets for curious individuals that may be passing through the region. Joining together bakers, chocolatiers, and café owners, the Southern Grampians are a comfort food haven. Come to this region to purchase or learn to make gourmet pies, provincial dishes, family recipes, and handcrafted sourdough like nowhere else in the world.

Ararat and the Grampians:

Anyone bitten with the travel bug from around the world is familiar with the natural splendor of the Grampians, a popular destination when spending time in Victoria. This stunning mountain range hosts an abundance of breathtaking views, vibrant biodiversity, Aboriginal history, and gorgeous flora and fauna of all kinds. In partnership with Eat Drink West’s community, this region has also proven to be a culinary haven, with the Grampian’s natural bounty represented in the regional cuisine.

Between blooming canola fields and seasonal ingredients cycling through the range, local restauranteurs have seized the opportunity to translate the natural wonder of the region into specialty dishes. When tasting a seasonal menu made up of grass-fed meats, organic vegetables, or pink salt from surrounding salt lakes, diners in the area cannot help but feel connected to the National Park that envelops them. Home to some of Western Victoria’s oldest olive groves, dishes are further enriched by freshly pressed olive oils, hand-picked olives, and artisan vinegars.

At its core, the Grampians are an amazing setting for wine-making, with dozens of boutique wineries sprinkled across the mountain range’s foothills. The wine from the region is award-winning, with crisp and vibrant whites juxtaposed against rich and sensual reds.
