Who We Are:
We’re Kristen and Tom with our two dogs, Winston and Lottie, and our black cat, Kora.
Like many people from every corner of the world, we had always been intrigued by the mystery and theatre surrounding truffles and their subterranean origin.
With no farming background but a sense of adventure and a curiosity to discover why truffles are one of the earth’s richest culinary experiences, we left behind our busy city lives in late 2019 to begin the new decade and our ‘tree change with a difference’ at Black Cat Truffles … full of excitement, wonder and anticipation.
Within the Central Highlands region of Victoria, you’ll find Black Cat Truffles, a truffle farm specializing in a food experience that is unique and rewarding.
Spanning 20 acres overlooking the Creswick State Forest, the rich red volcanic soil and climatic conditions have allowed their 1,000 French and English oaks to produce high quality, black Perigord truffles for several years.
Their resident truffle dogs, Winston and Lottie, black cat, Kora and herd of six multi-coloured alpacas add to the personality and interest of Black Cat Truffles
What We Do:
This is the producer to contact if you want fresh, flavourful truffles, or truffle-related items to feed a savoury craving.
They provide fresh truffles to a number of high-end restaurants locally and around Victoria and also produce a range of quality truffle-infused products for foodies and truffle enthusiasts, both online and in our Farm Gate Cafe and shop.
To truly experience the truffle story, indulge in their “Truffle Hunt & Taste of Truffles Experience” which take place during every weekend of our three month truffle season (June to August). Here people rug up, don their gum boots and join our truffle-foraging dogs to find a truffle in our truffiere, hear a talk about the fascinating science of truffle farming then move into the snug Cafe for a glass of bubbles and a selection of delicious truffle-based tastings.
