Who We Are:
The beginning of Backyard Beekeeping Ballarat was accidentally sparked by the gift of a beehive from a friend in 2013. Amanda and Scott turned recreational beekeeping and joyful curiosity in the world’s most productive insect into a collection of apiary products when they established Backyard Beekeeping Ballarat in 2015. This urban beekeeping enterprise is run from local backyards in the city of Ballarat and from migratory beekeeping sites located throughout Central, Western and Northern Victoria.
Founded by Amanda Collins and Scott Denno, Backyard Beekeeping Ballarat is a beekeeping enterprise that uses local floral resources to produce delicious results. Recreational beekeeping turned to a serious trade and Amanda and Scott both became experienced beekeepers, undertaking formal trainings in beekeeping and biosecurity. Amanda and Scott are engaged in Victoria’s growing beekeeping community and are members of the Victorian Recreational Beekeepers Association, Ballarat Regional Beekeepers Association, Geelong Beekeeping Club and Victorian Apiarists Association.
What We Do:
Backyard Beekeeping Ballarat is home to a variety of locally produced honeys, beeswax, and beekeeping supplies. They also host a series of introductory workshops, open hive experiences and honey tastings, inviting the surrounding Victoria community to share knowledge and a passion for beekeeping. The two founders have created a sustainable, engaging, and community-based beekeeping enterprise that engages Victorians as a producer and educational source, bonding over a shared respect and interest in the honeybee.
